We made our last farewells to Marcus & Deb before they head home & we headed for the airport to catch a plane to Puerto Maldonado. It was about a 45-minute taxi ride and the smog over Lima persisted. Apparently one of the boats had broken down so there was a fair amount of chaos at the Office, especially as there was a torrential downpour of rain as we arrived. Eventually everything was sorted out and we made our way to the boats. By this time it was quite late so it was dark shortly after we left. The boatman did an excellent job navigating his way up the river for about 3 hours until we arrived at Refugio Amazonas. Dinner was waiting for us so after a meal and chatting with the other guests at our table, we were shown our room. We were surprised to see that we had our own en suite – cold water only. The room was open to the jungle on one side so that we could experience being in the jungle at night whilst still having the comforts of a nice bed with mosquito nets. was a torrential downpour of rain as we arrived.
